Municipal Development Plan
The Municipal Development Plan (MDP) is the Town of Slave Lake’s long-term planning document. It outlines the general direction for how the community is expected to grow and develop over time.
The MDP is used to guide land use decisions and long-range planning. It also helps the Town plan for things like infrastructure, housing, and future development. While the plan looks ahead, it is intended to be used alongside other planning documents and bylaws that address more detailed requirements.
What’s in the Plan?
The MDP is guided by a set of principles that reflect the Town’s priorities for growth, development, and community well-being.
- Enhance quality of life by providing inclusive amenities, development, and supporting community well-being.
- Support affordable housing and residential development opportunities by encouraging developments.
- Establish a vibrant downtown as the Town’s central business and mixed-use area for residents and visitors.
- Improve connections to the waterfront by enhancing access, walkability, recreation, and environmental stewardship of Lesser Slave Lake.
- Ensure efficient servicing & infrastructure delivery through cost-effective delivery of municipal utilities and transportation networks.
- Promote social and cultural diversity by promoting inclusive community events, programs, and the celebration of local heritage.
- Promote tourism by promoting year-round tourism based on the Town’s natural, cultural and recreational amenities.
- Achieve continued economic development by supporting a diverse local economy and sustainable use of land and resources.
