The wildfire danger is HIGH in the Slave Lake Forest Area.

Firefighters urge everyone to use caution as the dead grass will ignite easily and a wildfire will spread quickly under windy conditions. Report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3743).

Fire lookouts are on high alert constantly watching for smoke and firefighters in helicopters and airtankers are ready to respond to any new wildfires that may start.


The forecast for today is calling for a high of 16 degrees and winds from the southeast/southwest up to 20 kilometres per hour. 

Wildfire Update - May 12, 2020

There was one new wildfire detected yesterday afternoon. The grass fire was caused by a spark from grinding metal.This is the second wildfire this season that started from working in areas of dry grass. When welding or grinding do ensure the area is free of flammables and have firefighting equipment such as a shovel and water on hand.

Since March 1 in the Slave Lake Forest Area, there have been 16 wildfires which have burned a total of 3.65 hectares. 

The McMillan Wildfire which occurred during the 2019 wildfire season, remains under control and will be infrared scanned this spring.

Since March 1 in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta, there have been 141 wildfires burning a total of 70.14 hectares.
