Slave Lake, Alta. - Over the past several weeks, the Slave Lake RCMP have received an increased number of property offence related complaints. These complaints include instances of theft, mischief, and break and enters. The Slave Lake Detachment and General Investigation Section have laid charges relating to several of these occurrences.
On April 24, 2019 the RCMP received a report of a break-in to a storage site in the industrial area of town. Several items were stolen totalling over $5000. On April 26, many of the stolen items were located inside a vehicle and a residence within the Northeast quadrant of town. Rhonda Cardinal and Bobby Carmichael have been charged with possession of property obtain by crime. Both have been released from custody following a bail hearing and are set to appear in Slave Lake Provincial Court on May 22, 2019.
On April 25, 2019 the RCMP conducted a traffic stop with a suspicious vehicle in the southwest quadrant of town. Upon conducting the stop, it was determined that the licence plate displayed on the vehicle has been stolen from a company vehicle the week prior. The driver of the suspect vehicle was subsequently arrested. Daniel Kuhberg has been charged with possession obtained by crime and released from custody following a bail hearing. Court is set for May 29 in Slave Lake Provincial Court.
On May 1, 2019 members of the Slave Lake RCMP identified two individuals who were alleged to have stolen property from a vehicle in Westlock on April 24, 2019. The property included hand and power tools. The individuals were known to reside in Slave Lake and patrols were conducted. During the day, both individuals were arrested and brought to the detachment. Upon being arrested, one of the individuals was found in possession of stolen property belonging to an individual from Slave Lake. Robie Jacobsen has been charged with theft and possession of property obtained by crime. Daniel Kuhberg has been charged with theft. Both accused were released from custody following bail hearings and are set to appear in Slave Lake and Westlock Provincial Court on May 22 and May 29 respectively.
On April 17, 2019, the Slave Lake RCMP investigated a residential break and enter. Suspects allegedly stole property, including bank cards, from the residence then purchased items from a local store using these cards. On May 3, 2019, the suspects were identified and charged by investigators. Daniel Kuhberg has been charged with fraud, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of break-in tools and failing to comply with conditions. He has been remanded into custody and will appear in Slave Lake Provincial Court. Charges are pending against a second suspect.
On May 5, 2019 members of the Slave Lake RCMP we conducting patrols in town when an individual, known to be wanted, was located and arrested. During the arrest, the individual was alleged to be in possession of property belonging to a well service company based in Slave Lake. Contact with the company revealed that the property had in fact been stolen. In addition to this property, the personal property of another individual was located. Bobby Carmichael has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime. He has been released from custody following a bail hearing and is set to appear in Slave Lake Provincial Court on May 22, 2019.
"Combatting property crime is a top priority for the Slave Lake RCMP. Our officers have been diligent in identifying suspects and residences related to property crime" says S/Sgt John Spaans of the Slave Lake Detachment. "Analysing hot-spots and crime trends will, ideally, lead to further success in reducing instances of property crime in the community and bring those responsible to justice".
