[ARCHIVED] 5 Avenue NW Temporary Water Supply Update

Notice to Residents

The temporary water system on 5 Ave in the NW will be left in place until the middle of next week due to some issues we are having with the existing service curb stop valves which are at the property line of each residence. We are not able to get a proper pressure test on the new water line as some of these existing valves are leaking a bit. After about a week of unsuccessfully trying to locate the ones that are leaking, we have made the decision to replace all of them in order to ensure we have a secure water line. We have already replaced 11 and will work through the weekend to replace the remaining 21. We are planning to have them completed by mid next week at which time the temporary water system will be removed and everyone can be switched over to the new permanent waterline. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and we request that all residents leave a water tap running at all times when the temperatures are at or below zero in order to reduce the chance of the temporary supply lines freezing off. The temporary water bypasses the water meter so no-one will be charged for the water usage (only the base rate) while on the temporary system. If you do have a water line that has frozen, let the workers out front know or alternately call the Town of Slave Lake at 780 849-8000 and we can contact them.
