The Town of Slave Lake has recently taken possession of a new electric Zamboni 552. As this unit is equipped with sate of the art lithium-ion batteries, the Town will be eliminating any operational emissions, leading to a reduction in environmental impact, as well as health and safety improvement for both staff and patrons.
This project was partially funded by the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre with a rebate through the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities (EVM) Funding. The remaining funding for the Zamboni was included in the approved 2020 Capital Plan.
This Zamboni replaces a 2010 model that was nearing the end of its life span. When the Multi-Recreation Centre (MRC) is in full operations, the ice re-surfacing machine is used on a daily basis to ensure good quality ice in both arenas.
Town staff will be trained on the use of the new machine and it will be in operation when ice is installed at the MRC this fall.
