Slave Lake RCMP arrests repeat property crime offender
Slave Lake, Alta. – On June 24, 2025, Slave Lake RCMP received a call to assist EMS with an intoxicated male who was showing violent behaviours. Upon arrival, the suspect had calmed down and had been cleared by EMS. The suspect then stated he would walk to the hospital, and, seeing his current state, the RCMP officer offered him a ride on condition that he was searched before entering the vehicle. A search of the suspect revealed stolen property, which led to the arrest of the suspect, a repeat property crime offender.
As a result of the investigation, Joey Bigstone (32), a resident of Slave Lake, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime. He was brought before a justice of the peace, who released him on conditions. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Slave Lake on July 9, 2025.
“The Slave Lake RCMP remains committed to holding prolific offenders accountable,” said S/Sgt. Casey Bruyns, Detachment Commander of the Slave Lake RCMP. “We brought the suspect before a justice of the peace in hopes that he would be ordered to remain in custody but such was not the result in the end. We understand the community’s concerns and want to assure residents that we will continue to use every legal avenue available to disrupt criminal activity and keep Slave Lake safe.”
