A safe statement would be that there are positives and negatives to having social media. I can tell you as elected officials, some like it and others hate it. The negative obviously is that anyone can say anything at any time and
we all see it. Some would argue that’s the power of having freedom of
speech. Others might say something a little different. Whatever your
thoughts on social media we cannot ignore the ability it allows information to
go out to a lot of people in a short amount of time.
This was evident last evening when a six year old boy went missing here in
Slave Lake. The family, the RCMP and the Town reached out to the
community for help. They need help to locate the missing child and get the
word out quickly. The town made a post and it was shared by countless
people some near and others quite far away. Hundreds of people knew
within a matter of minutes that a little boy was missing, what he looked like
and where and when he was last seen.
This story of course has a happy ending and the boy was located. I just
wanted to say thanks to the community for playing and integral part in
making sure that story did have a happy ending. I think we are very
fortunate to live in a community where so many people are ready to lend a
hand at a moment’s notice when help is needed.
Thank you Slave Lake!!!!
