Slave Lake RCMP investigates a suspicious fire in Smith

RCMP NEWS RELEASE

Slave Lake, Alberta – The Slave Lake RCMP is investigating a suspicious fire in the area of Smith.  During the early morning hours of May 23, 2018 the RCMP were alerted to the fire by CN Rail.  While operating in the area, a CN worker was able to see flames emanating from a structure in view of the tracks. 

Slave Lake RCMP and the Lesser Slave Lake Regional Fire Service attended to find a structure and a nearby wood pile full engulfed.  The structure was found to be an abandoned sawmill and was not occupied at the time of the fire. 

Investigation into this matter continues.  Presently, the fire is deemed suspicious and the exact cause is not known.
