RCMP Release

Rise in Thefts from Local Businesses

Slave Lake, Alta - In recent weeks the Slave Lake RCMP have received an increase in the number of thefts from local businesses; specifically relating to electronics.  The thefts have been taking place during business hours and it appears as though a group of individuals are working collectively to distract employees while someone else steals the goods.  Suspects have been targeting electronics including laptops, gaming consoles and related goods.  This has been particularly evident in the Cornerstone development.

Investigation into these matters is ongoing with persons of interest being identified through security footage.

The Slave Lake RCMP are asking business owners and employees to report any suspicious activity.  This would include reporting suspicious people wearing face coverings within the store such as sunglasses, hoodies, bandanas or anything apparently being worn to conceal their identity.  It is also recommended that electronics be displayed in such a manner that deters would-be thieves from accessing them.  It is important not to approach these individuals if they are suspected of shoplifting, to report the incident to police and to document any licence plates or descriptions of get-away vehicles.
