Electrical short causes changes in operations at
*** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***
SLAVE LAKE, AB --- Due to a shorted electrical cable on March 14th, facility operational changes have been put in place for the remainder of the hockey season at the Multi-Rec Centre.
Brian Vance, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Slave Lake said in a statement that fixing the damaged cable will take longer than originally expected.
“When the damaged cable was tested on Thursday March 16th, it was determined that the cable was shorted out underground. Therefore, it cannot be quickly repaired, and we will need to wait for the ground to thaw before the repairs can take place.”
Due to the extent of the damage an alternative schedule for the Multi-Rec Centre has been put in place and can be found online at www.slavelake.ca
This schedule will ensure that town staff can keep the ice prepared for the Midget C Tournament next weekend, Vance stated. “We can not run the ice plant and the three facilities lights at one time,” Vance added, due to the amount of electrical damage the Walking Track and the Fieldhouse will need to be shut down during the Slave Lake Midget C Provincial Tournament next weekend.
The ice surfaces in both arenas were not damaged due to the outage on March 14th, or when testing took place on March 16th.
When the ice surface in both arenas is removed the Multi-Rec Centre’s regular spring/summer hours will commence.
