Slave Lake RCMP Investigate a Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

Slave Lake, Alta. -  On July 20th, 2020 at 6:40 p.m. the RCMP responded to a report of a male being assaulted by a motor vehicle. Eye witnesses report that the driver of the vehicle ran over the victim multiple times in the Southwest quadrant of town. The victim, a male in his 20’s collapsed to the ground behind the Multi Recreation Center. 

Members attended the scene to find the victim already being assisted by emergencies medical services. He was taken to Hospital and treated for non life threatening injuries.

"This occurrence took place during a busy time in Slave Lake with several civilians observing what took place.  Investigators are thankful for the input from those witnesses and their assistance in bringing this matter is a peaceful conclusion" says Staff Sergeant John Spaans of the Slave Lake RCMP. 

John Metzner has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assault with a weapon, and failing to stop after an accident.  Metzner was held for a judicial interim release and was remanded into custody until his next court appearance on July 22, 2020.
